From the Zenotz fronton—where we park—we walk to the main road linking Gerendiain and Iraizotz. We cross it and follow the narrow road until, about one kilometre later, we find a track on the left.
This track—suitable for walking, horseback riding and cycling—gradually brings us down to the riverbank of the river that gives the valley its name: the Ultzama.
After crossing it, and always following the waymarked route, we begin a short climb. We will see how the vegetation changes and how the oak wood gives way to open plains. The horses—some skittish, others more playful—may or may not greet visitors. At this point we can choose to turn right and follow the path towards the Mycological Park, or continue straight on towards Larraintzar, which we can see ahead.
After arriving in Larraintzar and making a strategic stop at its inn (ostatu), we return to the track and head towards Lizaso. The village is home to the renowned Orgi Restaurant. In this simple place, in a charming Ultzama village, Mikel Odriozola continues to surprise diners with refined technique applied to outstanding local produce. Special mention for its carefully curated mycological menu and its extraordinary veal shank (by pre-order).
Only about 20 minutes on foot separate Lizaso from the Orgi Forest. We can visit it, or continue our walk among stud farms and head towards Gerendiain—also home to the Aitona cider house and the Gerendiain inn—before gradually returning to the car.
