Description
Humans have been fascinated by the work and remarkable behaviour of bees since ancient times.
Honey bees are of great interest not only for producing honey and other hive products, but also as irreplaceable pollinators — helping to protect biodiversity and the healthy functioning of ecosystems.
At EZKURDI (1576) in Eltso, a traditional house in the Ultzama Valley, visitors can discover the ART AND SCIENCE OF BEES, FLOWERS AND BEEKEEPING through a guided visit led by the owners themselves — experienced beekeepers.
During the visit, you will enjoy an engaging, informative and educational explanation of:
-
The life and work of bees; the importance of pollination and its impact on ecosystems and biodiversity; local nectar plants; the beekeeping calendar; and the fieldwork carried out by the beekeepers. You will also learn about different types of honey, their quality characteristics and origins, and the artisan work done in the extraction and bottling room.
-
From a more ethnographic perspective, we also explore the relationship between humans, bees, wax and honey through the centuries, with special attention to candle-making and traditional beekeeping in Navarra.
-
To complete the experience, there is a honey tasting where visitors can understand, appreciate and sample different high-quality raw honeys from our own apiaries located across Navarra’s flowering areas. Direct sales available.
